The Alexia Foundation has awarded its annual grant to photojournalist Stephanie Sinclair, who plans to continue a project on girls forced into marriage at a young age.

“My goal is to create a compassionate portrait of young girls worldwide who are being forced into early adulthood,” Sinclair wrote in her proposal.

The Alexia Foundation awards a $15,000 grant annually to photojournalists who promote peace and cultural understanding. The award is given in memory of Alexia Tsairis, a Syracuse University photojournalism student killed in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.

Sinclair is a member of the recently formed VII Network, part of the VII photo agency. She has also worked for Corbis and the
Chicago Tribune. She has won numerous awards including several World Press Photo awards and a share of a 2001 Pulitzer Prize awarded to the Tribune staff.
