The Future of Biking

By Sara McGuyer • Jul 26th, 2010 • Category: Trail Blazers

Seeking a million voices for a cause isn’t anything new, but peopleforbikes.org have put together an ambitious nationwide call to action to help create a more bike-friendly environment in the states. If you’ve ever biked on a busy road, you know how much this movement is needed.

They’ve gotten a great start – a beautifully designed website with clear paths for engagement. In addition to signing a pledge to bike more often, users can learn about local biking initiatives and contact legislators to support public policy for biking issues. Of course, this is just the beginning, but I look forward to seeing how their community grows. peopleforbikes.org is an initiative of Bikes Belong.

  1. Thanks Sara, we need to do what we can to get cars off the road.

On any given day the Small Box office has 7 bikes. Personally my family has gone down to one car and I’ve ridden to work every day for almost 3 months.

  2. Hi PJ, Thanks for stopping by. I think it’s worth pointing out that your office has multiple bikers. I’m sure it is motivating when you see your colleagues riding their bikes to work also. That’s exactly the value in a site like peopleforbikes.org. The more visible biking becomes, the more people will consider it a viable transportation option.

I have been daydreaming of getting rid of my car. I haven’t been able to make the leap just yet. But I did sign their pledge and I am vowing to bike more often.
