My Blue IndianaCity (and Indiana)

By Jason Moriber • Nov 5th, 2008 • Category: IndianaCity is Phenomenal

CNN/MSNBC et al noted the strong shift in the types of individuals who influenced the vote this year, from transient college educated professions to first time voters. I’m one of these transient college educated professionals having lived in at least two cities or locations, I’ve lived in five or more, I lose count.

My move to Indiana was my first move to a historically Red state, and the tone was palpable. But over the past year, as Mr. Obama and the Democrats campaigned hard, that tone slowly shifted, not much, but enough to notice. More Obama bumper stickers and lawn signs, a mix of displays that offered a new window into change. I saw many examples of support for candidates for different positions on both sides of the aisle. A Republican Governor but the Democrat President, a Republican Congressperson but a Democrat Judge, a true middle ground, a light Blue or Pink.

Take notice America, Indiana has always noted itself as the crossroads of America. With Mr. Obama (the victor) and Mr. McCain separated by 22,986 votes we’ve crossed the threshold into Blue-dom for the first time in 44 years. And here in Indy, our Marion county surrounded by a sea of red counties, we’ve decided for change on the national stage, my beloved IndianaCity is Blue. Congratulations Mr. Obama, we support you. Now let’s get to work!
