Self Portrait Series #1: Susan Egan

By Jason Moriber • Jan 9th, 2008 • Category: Eye Candy, Photography

This is the first of our open Self Portrait Series. We’re seeking Self Portraits as a series (at least 5 to be considered) to post in this section. Images need to be at 72 dpi and 700 pixels on the longest side. If you’re interested in please contact us via our contact form and we’ll reply with the instruction. All copyrights belong to the artist. We are using these images by permission.

The idea came to us as we sought images from the Gurus we are interviewing, some of whom chose to send us true self-portraits, or set-up of the image and asked someone close to take the picture.

Self Portrait Series #1: Susan Egan

Self portraits have played a whole host of roles over the centuries, these days with social network sites and blogs, the self portrait has taken on new multi-functionality (in shapes and sizes). Susan Egan’s “selfs” run the gamut from the serious to the playful (but mostly playful, a little fun-lewd). Susan divides her time between NYC and FLA, and is know for her spot-on un-adultered portraiture, a playfulness within serious moments, and an ability to make all of the above sexy in a uniquely passive/aggressive way.

  1. I am interested but I am not sure what you are looking for: Drawn or photographic self portraits?
    What is the purpose?
    Thanks,
    Barry Zaid

  2. Hi Barry,

    It’s open.

What we’ve been finding, mostly due to social networks like facebook and linkedin, is many folks are taking more and more self portraits (some standard, others in multi/new-directions). With the ease of use of digital cameras, wysiwyg programs, and file uploading, there are some neat images being made and in doing so have created a renewed life to the self portrait. Being creative professionals ourselves we thought it would be a fun idea to open it to our audience, and see/display the range of what is possible.

Let us know if you have any further questions! Thanks for posting,

    Jason

  3. How do I go about submitting my self portraits? Is there any awards?

  4. HI Charlie,

There is no specific reward, it’s really for the fun of being part of a series, and the exposure from our daily traffic is a good bonus. There are other intangibles, such as networking, cross marketing, search engine ranking, but really it’s to be part of the series, to see how artists approach this subject.

To submit images please zip up/compress at least five images at 72 DPI with 600 pixels as the longest side. If you have an order to them, please name them accordingly such as 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. Then email the zip/compressed file to info@wiseelephant.com with your name and the word “selfs” in the subject line. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks for your interest,

    Jason

  5. Thanks Jason!
